Indore: For residents of Sukhliya, fear of theft still lingers on

Indore: Fear of thefts and chain snatchings still grips residents of Sukhliya, which comes under Heera Nagar police station area.

Number of theft and chain snatching incidents were quite high a few years ago and it has left people especially women frightened and they have to be more alert when they come out of their residences. However, no big incident has taken place recently but residents still living under fear due to movement of suspicious people.

Meanwhile, Heera Nagar police claimed to have nabbed a gang involved in chain snatching and thefts, but there is no change in the rate of such crimes.

Recovery of two bodies in gunny bags were the major incidents in the area and body of a woman is still unidentified.

Resident Niranjan Singh Ranawat said that they do not leave their house locked due to fear of thefts.

“This colony is a soft target for thieves as they got easy escape through Ujjain road and Super Corridor,” he said.

Software engineer Satyajeet Yadav said that though the police had been patrolling the area in the night, movement of suspicious people was main concern of people.

“No big incident took place in the area since long time but previous incidents have left residents more cautious,” a professional, Pankaj Soni said.

Another resident, Kishan Khatri, complains that the police do not patrol in the colony and they cover only main roads.

Women are not safe here as the accused dare to snatch bags and chains when you step out of your house. We are afraid of these incidents and appeal to police to increase patrolling in the streets.
