Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Feeling guilty over the death of her six-month-old daughter, a 35-year-old woman ended her life 12 days after her child’s passing. She was devastated by the loss of her infant daughter and she blamed herself for the infant’s death.

The infant had died due to choking while the woman was breastfeeding her and the milk accidentally entered her windpipe (trachea).

According to police, the deceased identified as Neelam Chaudhary, a resident of Scheme No. 78, hanged herself at her place in the Lasudia area on Friday evening. Her family said that Neelam had been deeply saddened since the death of her daughter on November 24. Unable to cope with the grief, she took the drastic step.

On the day she committed suicide, her husband had gone to office and as construction work was going on in the house's lower floor, Neelam went upstairs and hanged herself from the window when she was alone. She is survived by her husband and a two-year-old daughter.

She blamed herself for her daughter's death

Her husband Mahesh said that Neelam was breastfeeding their infant daughter on November 24, when milk accidentally entered the baby's windpipe. The baby’s condition deteriorated and she was taken to the hospital, where she passed away. Neelam had been blaming herself for her death ever since. Her family members had repeatedly consoled her but she remained depressed.

Brother’s final moments with her

Her brother said Neelam had given birth to her second daughter six months ago. Since the baby’s death, she had never been left alone. On Friday, he visited her house and Neelam prepared tea for him, which they had together. Afterwards, she went upstairs to her room. When she didn’t return, her brother became suspicious and went upstairs to check, only to find her.
