Indore (Madhya Pradesh): After a long wait of five years, the district hospital's structure is finally taking shape. The construction of four floors of the building is nearing completion, and work on the fifth floor has begun. The increased pace of the work has raised hopes that the hospital will soon be fully operational, offering modern medical facilities.

Initially planned as a 100-bed facility, the hospital is now being expanded to accommodate 300 beds. At present, only the women's ward is functional, with no diagnostic or surgical services available.

According to the officials, “Once operational, the hospital will house an emergency ward, surgical ward, paediatric ward, PICU, dialysis ward, operation theatres, TB lab, PCR lab, and more. This will reduce the dependence on private and other government hospitals as only the gynaecology and obstetrics departments are operations, and patients with other ailments are not admitted.”

Delays despite multiple inspections

Despite frequent visits by officials and public representatives, construction delays persist. Tenders have been changed multiple times, slowing progress. Due to these delays, residents of Noorani Nagar, Chandan Nagar, Sirpur, Dwarkapuri, and nearby villages are forced to rely on private hospitals for even minor treatments.

"The construction of four floors is nearly finished, and work is progressing rapidly. Soon, patients will get better healthcare services with the completion of the District Hospital."
