Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In view of the falling ground water level in the district, collector and district magistrate Asheesh Singh has declared the entire district, including the city, as a water-scarce area and banned boring for tube-wells. Singh issued an order of this regard on Thursday.

As per the order, a ban has been imposed on non-government and private tube-well boring in the entire district, including the city. The restrictive order came into effect from Thursday itself and will remain effective till June 15.

The revenue, police and Indore Municipal Corporation officials will have the right to seize boring machines which illegally enter restricted places in the district or attempt tube-well boring and register an FIR in the police station concerned.

All the additional collectors have been authorized to give permission for new tube-well boring by registered agencies only under the prescribed conditions on the basis of investigation report provided by executive engineer of public health engineering (PHE), IMC in urban area and executive engineer of PHE department in rural areas in unavoidable cases.

Action will be taken on violation of this notification. This order will not be applicable on tube-well boring done under government schemes for which it will not be necessary to obtain permission. If required, newly dug private tube-wells and other existing private water sources can be acquired for public drinking water arrangement.
