Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Anand Jain, chairman of CA Indore Branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) has said that ICAI is making its mark not only in the country but also in the world by constantly improving its standards. Thus, today the demand for Indian CAs is increasing all over the world.

Jain was addressing a function organised to mark the 74th CA Day on Friday. Various activities are being organised from today till July 9. In the inaugural function held on Friday former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan was the chief guest. Flag of ICAI was hoisted and blood donation and health check-ups of CAs were done on this occasion.

Addressing the function Jain said that for the success of GST, the general public, accountants, businessmen, tax consultants, etc. were constantly trained by the branch to enhance their knowledge. In the last five years, 135 programmes on GST were done by the Indore branch alone, which were attended by more than 29,000 people.

Manoj Fadnis, former national president of ICAI, said that when the CA Act came into force, there was a debate in Parliament for two days.

In the Companies Act 1913, there was a mention of auditors and before 1949 Indian auditors were called ‘Registered Accountants’ and auditors from abroad were called ‘Chartered Accountants’. Subsequently, tobring the Indian registered accountants at par with foreign chartered accountants, the Act also started calling the former as chartered accountants.

Mahajan in her brief address said that the taxpayer should be motivated to pay the appropriate tax. Addressing the youth members, she said that today the youth is dominant in the whole country and they are doing good work.

Kirti Joshi, regional council member, said that ICAI has 32 central council members, 5 regional councils, 64 regional council members, 166 branches and about 1000 officials, who are continuously working to speed up the country's economy, bring awareness and implement new policies. What ICAI has achieved today has been possible only with the cooperation of our members and students in the last seven decades. Our signature is as valuable as a stamp, all members should work keeping these things in mind.
