Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Secretary Anurag Jain took stock of the preparations regarding visit of the President of India Draupadi Murmu on Monday. The President is scheduled to arrive in the city and visit Barwani on June 18.
He chaired a virtual review meeting of senior officials. Along with senior state level officials, Divisional Commissioner Deepak Singh, IG Anurag, Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, Collector Asheesh Singh, IMC Commissioner Shivam Verma, Collector, DIG and Superintendent of Police of Barwani district and other officials participated.
The Chief Secretary directed that all preparations for the visit of the President should be ensured ahead of time as per the prescribed protocol. No stone should be left unturned in the preparations.
He reviewed the arrangements made for security, accommodation, transport etc. He also directed to make necessary arrangements including security at the event venue in village Talen in Barwani district. He also directed to pay special attention to cleanliness, traffic system, uninterrupted power supply, fire brigade and emergency medical arrangements.
Auto drivers protest against online companies
Hundreds of autorickshaw drivers under the banner of Indore Autorickshaw Chalak Mahasangh staged a protest outside the Rapido office at C21 Mall on Monday, locking the premises in protest against what they call the dictatorship of online transport companies like Rapido, Ola and Uber.
Union president Rajesh Bidkar said these companies violate Regional Transport Office (RTO) fare rules, which mandate Rs 20 for the first kilometre and Rs 17 per subsequent kilometre. However, online platforms charge arbitrary fares, causing losses to over 20,000 local drivers.
Bidkar also raised concerns about illegally operated bike taxis, lack of driver police verification and use of private two-wheelers for commercial purposes—endangering passenger safety. He warned that these companies do not follow permit conditions or have valid trade licences and drivers are often unverified. The union has vowed to shut down such illegal operations if authorities do not intervene.
