Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A 45-year-old chemist, Amit Chelawat, suffered a fatal heart attack while playing badminton at Abhay Prashal on Wednesday morning. His colleagues administered CPR, briefly reviving him. However, when they tried to give him medicine, he refused, citing the Jain tradition of Navkarsi, which prohibits eating before 8 am. Shortly after, he suffered another attack and was declared dead at the hospital.

Chelawat, a resident of South Tukoganj, was a regular badminton player and health-conscious individual. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, one studying in the US and the other in Class 11. Chelawat’s family donated his eyes and skin to benefit those in need.

Doctors warn of exercise risks

Cardiologist Dr Manish Porwal explained that physical activity increases the heart’s demand for blood, which can expose hidden blockages. In such cases, immediate CPR is essential, as delays can be fatal within minutes. He advised regular ECG and TMT tests for active individuals. He also cautioned against exercising on an empty stomach, as low blood sugar can worsen heart risks. With a 15% rise in heart attack cases this season, doctors urge people to take necessary precautions.
