Indore: A world of inspiration, innocence and innovation was recreated when children painted their imagination at the annual painting competition organised by Free Press and DHL Infrabulls International Pvt Ltd at Free Press premises here on Sunday. With world as canvas, over 4,000 students arrived at the venue as early as 9.30 am carrying colours, crayons, pencils and brushes to paint a new view of the world. Their motive was to paint their ideas about city’s development with perfection.

The competition was organised for students of Class I to XII. It was held in three categories: Group A for Class I to III, Group B for Class IV to VII and Group C for Class VIII to XII students. Group A participants were given sheets with traced lines to fill in colours. The scene was showing holiday season with Christmas tree, gifts, sweets seller and a bird in garden. Group B students were asked to choose theme for painting from ‘Clean and Green Street’, ‘Metro in Indore’ and ‘Importance of Helmet’.

Senior students in Group C had the following topics to choose from to paint a picture: ‘Development in India’, ‘Mission Chandrayaan’ and ‘Future Indore’. Participants gave a preview of their future art, which looked brighter, articulate and stunningly impressive. They surprised judges and their parents with their imaginative paintings that highlighted the use of technology in dealing with various issues. The proficient use of colours and design was commendable. The best three paintings were chosen and awarded prizes in each group. Besides winners in each category, 10 consolation prizes were also given.

Selecting winners was a tough task for judges as every participant showed a new picture of his/her imagination. Talking about different artworks, judges appreciated all the participants and were pleasantly surprised by paintings. “I was amazed to see that many students chose ‘Mission Chandrayan’ as the topic of their painting,” Rajeev Wayangankar remarked. He said it is rare to see such artistic talent in senior students. “However, we were all happy to see that many senior students had kept their imaginations alive and were ready to paint pretty pictures on the canvas,” Wayagankar said.

“Free Press painting competition is where my passion for art started and today, I am here as a judge. It is an amazing feeling,” Deval Verma exclaimed. He participated in Free Press painting competition regularly till Class XII as it was just fun to be out here in ‘On the Spot’ painting competition. “We are learning more from these children as their imagination is vast and unrestricted,” Gunjan Ladhdha said. She found many paintings inspiring. “Looking at the way these children have depicted issues, it seems our city and country have bright future,” Gunjan said.

“The youngest group is always most creative group and I was stunned to see the perfection they have already achieved,” Shrutika Kalamkar said. She mentioned young participants who highlighted their artworks using thick, dark borders. “There was a student who used water colours and perfectly coloured the picture,” Shrutika said. Judging the competition, Rahul Solanki said, “We can always learn from children’s art.”

Sharing her view, Monika Lagu Solanki said, “I feel children in group B is most creative group.” Agreeing with her, Shreeram Jog said using bright colours and combining them without inhibition make them great artists. Talking about his experience, Arun Mourya said, “In last 10 years, I have seen that all kids are creative.” He said people lose creativity with time because their priorities change. “Only parents can decide what we become. I hope parents will help their children in following their passion,” Mourya said.
