Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore Municipal Corporation conducted a major operation in Zone 12 and seized a large quantity of illegal polythene. The IMC also slapped Rs 1 lakh spot fine.

The action was carried out following the instruction by additional commissioner Abhilash Mishra. A municipal team raided a godown in Panchsheel Nagar, where substandard polythene and banned carry bags were being stored. During inspection, officials found around 6.25 tons of prohibited polythene packed in 197 sacks.

The godown owner, Sarwan Kalra, revealed that while his shop is located on Warehouse Road, the entire illegal stock was being stored in the Panchsheel Nagar godown. For violating regulations, he was immediately fined Rs 1 lakh on the spot. The seized material was sent to the Nepra Plant for disposal.

The operation involved assistant chief health inspector of Zone 12 Chetan Jaiswal, Ward 61 inspector Rahul Verma, assistant inspectors of Wards 65 and 66 and other municipal staff.

The municipal team had been keeping the godown under surveillance for the past 3–4 days after receiving consistent reports of illegal storage. As soon as the godown opened this morning, the team quickly moved in to carry out the raid.
