Indore: 25% Discom Consumers Doing Irregularities

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A total of 33,500 cases of irregularities, illegal usage, and electricity theft were reported after 1.36 lakh electricity connections across Malwa-Nimar were inspected for their legality.

Managing director Rajani Singh stated that over the past nine months, field inspections were carried out in all 15 districts, including Indore. Special vigilance teams were also deployed.

The highest number of inspections took place in Indore and Dhar districts, with checks conducted at 18,000 locations. Other inspections included 15,000 in Khandwa, 12,000 in Ratlam, 11,000 in Khargone, and 9,500 in Ujjain.

In the remaining districts, 4,000 to 8,000 connections were inspected. By the end of December, 33,500 cases were registered, including those involving electricity theft and other irregularities. The total monetary value of these cases stands at Rs 82 crores. Singh emphasized that the ongoing campaign to inspect connections and identify irregularities will continue.

Appeal to follow rules and avoid electricity theft

Chief Vigilance Officer Kamesh Srivastava urged consumers to adhere to regulations when using electricity. He advised consumers to obtain appropriate connection for their specific purposes and to avoid theft or using residential connections for commercial activities.

He also recommended increasing the load capacity as per regulations when adding new appliances. In cases of irregularities, consumers may face billing adjustments and penalties for up to one year.
