IMC Rectifies Error; Confirms Fair Venue As Dhobi Ghat Ground |

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has issued a revised letter correcting an error in the fair permission letter for an upcoming event near Lalbagh. The original permission mistakenly mentioned ‘Karbala Ground’ as the venue instead of the correct location, ‘Dhobi Ghat ground’, the IMC said.

The clarification, issued on Wednesday, states that due to a clerical error, the venue was incorrectly listed. The revised letter confirms that the fair scheduled from July 6 to July 8 will take place on the 3-acre open land within the Dhobi Ghat ground, which is under IMC’s ownership. All other conditions of the original permission remain unchanged.

The issue came to light after members of the Hanuman Chowk Dhobi Ghat Maidan Raksha Samiti staged a protest on Tuesday. The demonstrators objected to the use of ‘Karbala Maiden’ in the official permission slip, arguing that the land legally belongs to the IMC. Protesters raised slogans against the civic body and warned of further demonstrations if the error was not corrected.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav responded by affirming that the Dhobi Ghat land is indeed under the ownership of the IMC following a court verdict. ‘After the court’s decision, the Dhobi Ghat ground is officially the property of the IMC and will be used strictly under its guidelines,’ he said.

The ownership dispute over Dhobi Ghat ground had persisted for years, but was finally resolved in September 2024, when the district court declared the IMC the legal owner of the 6.70-acre plot. This decision has brought clarity over the land’s status and the process to be followed for any future events held there.
