Indore : The Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court, on Thursday pulled up Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) for not taking necessary steps to keep the city clean and hygienic despite its order and directed the district collector to ensure that its orders are complied with.
The direction of the HC comes over a PIL filed by social activist Kishor Kodwani over poor garbage disposal system in the city.
Double bench of Justices PK Jaiswal and Prakash Shrivastava observed that the municipal commissioner and the IMC health officer were not taking adequate steps to improve garbage disposal system of the city and not complying with its order for the same.
The court had issued two orders one in November 2013 and another in March 2014 over the PIL but they were not adhered to.
Taking a senior note, the court directed the collector to take appropriate steps for implementation of the court’s orders to keep the city clean and hygienic.
The court order also directed the collector to submit a detailed report as to why the IMC is not complying with the court’s orders and also find a separate report if found any negligence against the officer of the civic body.
The report and an affidavit over the matter are to be filed before the court on or before October 10. As per Municipal Solid Waste (Management & Handling) Rules, it is primary duty of the corporation to take steps for collection, segregation, storage, transportation, processing, disposal of municipal solid waste and cleaning.
