Indore (Madhya Pradesh): With the onset of the summer season, the district administration is set to launch a special drive to check the fire-fighting preparedness of buildings with four floors or higher from Thursday. The focus of the drive will be on residential buildings, hostels, hotels, and hospitals.

Buildings failing to meet the basic requirements will be sealed.  A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Collector Asheesh Sharma here on Wednesday. He discussed issues of fire safety, especially in the residential areas, and gave necessary instructions.

The focus will be on taller buildings, hospitals, hostels, hotels, and schools, he said while appealing to the citizens to take necessary safety measures. Collector Singh said eight new fire sub-stations will be built to cater better to the city.

Officials of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), Fire Brigade, Revenue Department, and other related departments attended the meeting. Also present at the meeting were IMC Commissioner Shivam Verma, Additional Collector Roshan Rai, DIG Amit Singh, and Additional Commissioner of IMC Rohit Sisonia.

New sub-stations & fire safety kits

Eight new fire sub-stations will be established at places such as Nemawar Road, Super Corridor, Vijay Nagar, Star Square, and Dhar Road. These sub-stations will have new fire vehicles and other necessary resources.

Meanwhile, fire robots, drone cameras and fire safety kits are being provided to the firemen. It also came up at the meeting that budget allocation has been sought for modern fire vehicles and other resources. A special plan is also being made to reduce the fire response time.
