Indore : Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday slapped a fine of Rs 10000 on a man for poisoning his neighbour’s goats in Neemuch district.
The goat owner had appealed against a lesser sentence awarded to the accused by a lower court.
“Though the accused got away with merely a penalty, I respect court’s verdict and seeks wisdom to the person who killed my goats,” said Kailasi Bai (30), a resident of Manasa area of Neemuch district.
To Kailasi, the goats were like her family and also a source of income.
Counsel of Kailasi Bai said that KK Gupta said that two of her goats died under mysterious circumstances in March 2013. Suspecting hand of her neighbour Iqbal Fakur Mohammad in the death of her goats, the woman had registered a complaint with Kukdeshwar police station.
Autopsy report revealed that goats were poisoned to death after which Iqbal was booked under Section 429 for killing animal, with a provision of maximum of 5 years of imprisonment and fine.
In May 2013, a court of Manasa awarded one-year of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Iqbal.
He appealed against the verdict before additional Sessions Court of Manasa that commuted the punishment by asking the accused to stand in the court for a day and doubled the fine amount.
Upset by the court order, Kailasi Bai approached the HC in January 2014. “For me, the goats were like my family so I continued to fight the case even when I got debt-ridden,” she said.
Kailasi Bai said that she used to have 10 goats but all of them were poisoned by Iqbal in past 10 years. Three of them were saved by vet and the rest died, she said.
