Susner (Madhya Pradesh): Recent claims about a mentally ill patient receiving expired medicine at the government hospital have been declared false on Friday. The health department clarified that the medication provided is completely safe for consumption.

On Thursday, an elderly man from Lalakhendi village sought treatment at Civil Hospital Susner. Dr Suyash Bhardwaj prescribed Lithium Carbonate 300 mg tablets for 15 days to help calm the patient. However, when the patient’s family went to the medicine distribution centre, they found the medication was out of stock.

To ensure the patient received necessary treatment, Dr Bhardwaj obtained the required medicine from the emergency medicine centre. The batch number 2208367 of the medication was manufactured in May 2022 and is set to expire on April 30. The hospital administration confirmed that the medicine was safe and appropriate for the patient.

Dr Rajiv Kumar Barsena, CBMO of Civil Hospital Susner, stated that the claims of expired medicine being given are incorrect. He emphasised that the hospital has a strong record of providing safe medications and that the emergency centre was used to prevent any financial burden on the patient’s family.

The health department urges the public to refrain from spreading false information that could harm the reputation of the hospital, which has been a leader in providing medical care in Madhya Pradesh.
