Indore (Madhya Pradesh): For the first time in Indore, legal action has been taken against giving money to beggars.

An FIR has been registered against a youth who gave money to a beggar and the son of a woman caught begging for the third time.

The youth gave ₹10 to an elderly woman begging near a temple and then left in his vehicle.

However, the Women and Child Development Department’s anti-begging team recorded a video of the incident and traced the man using his vehicle number. Based on this, an FIR was filed against him.

At another location, a woman caught begging at a busy intersection was found to have violated previous warnings.

This was her third offense. Her son, who had earlier submitted an affidavit promising that his mother would not beg again, was also booked for violating the affidavit under the Indian Civil Security Act 2023, Section 223.

Ban On Begging In Indore

Indore has banned both giving and seeking money. On January 2, Collector Ashish Singh issued orders to file criminal cases against those involved in begging activities.

Punishment Under The Law

District Program Officer RN Budholia explained that under Section 223 of the Indian Civil Security Act, violating government orders can result in up to six months in jail, a fine, or both.
