Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Lokayukta, Special Police Establishment, Indore unit, registered a case on Monday against four individuals, including a former Crime Branch (CB) inspector and a constable, for allegedly demanding a Rs 1.2 lakh bribe from a woman to settle a complaint against her son.
According to SP Lokayukta Rajesh Sahay, the accused have been identified as former Crime Branch inspector Sujeet Srivastava, constable Vikas Sendhav, private driver Abhay Singh and private individual Deepak Patel.
Preeti Hajari, a resident of Tulsi Nagar, said in her complaint that her son Pranjal Hajari was called to the Indore Crime Branch office regarding a complaint filed by a woman.
She alleged that inspector Sujeet Srivastava and other officials demanded Rs 1.2 lakh to drop the complaint and release her son.
On March 20, the complainant said she was made to transfer Rs 50,800 through UPI to Deepak Patel at the Crime Branch office at Regal Square. Pranjal was released after this and the remaining Rs 70,000 was collected in cash the next day.
After the complaint was filed on April 2, Lokayukta officials investigated and verified the details. The complainant also submitted technical and digital evidence with her application.
Inspector Ashutosh Mithas said that after checking the technical evidence, the allegations were found to be true.
A case was registered against the accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 61(2) of the BNS. Further investigation is underway.
Was previously suspended in gambling case
Sujeet Srivastava, then Khajrana police station in-charge, was suspended following a raid on May 22, 2024, on a gambling operation running at a local politician's house in the Khajrana area.
Following that, he was posted as an inspector in the Crime Branch but was sent to the police lines due to complaints and he is currently attached to the Reserve Line.
