Indore : Citing a letter by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the University Grants Commission has directed Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya and other universities in the country to recognise three computer-based courses which are being taught to the students of Classes XI and XII.
The UGC also directed the universities that these three courses should be treated as computer-based subjects and the marks obtained by candidates in these subjects may be included for calculating aggregate marks for deciding the eligibility for admission in undergraduate courses.
In a letter addressed to the vice-chancellors of the universities in the country, UGC general secretary Jaspal S Sandhu said, “The Central Board of Secondary Education has introduced three computer-based courses to the students of classes XI and XII at senior secondary level. These subjects involve 70 percent marks of theory and 30 percent marks of practical work in the board examination.
“All these subjects are offered under the academic stream and have curriculum specifications that are compatible with the major subjects in science having theory and practical components. All the three courses are regular academic computer-based subjects.
“These three courses may be treated as computer-based subjects and the marks obtained by candidates in these subjects may be included to calculate aggregate marks in deciding the eligibility for admission.
“These subjects find a reflection in the subjects already being offered at the graduate level in various educational institutes. It is important that appropriate consideration may be accorded while admitting the students to the undergraduate courses and the college/university level.”
The letter concluded with asking universities to take appropriate action for recognition of these new subjects for the purpose of admission of students in degree programmes.
