Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The city’s iconic Lal Bagh Palace shimmered in festive lights as hundreds gathered for the vibrant Malwa Utsav on Monday.

The event, a confluence of folk art, tradition and patriotic pride, dazzled the audience with diverse performances and cultural displays, most notably a life-sized replica of the Indian Air Force’s Rafale fighter jet, standing tall as a tribute to national valour.

As dusk settled, the venue came alive with colourful flags and rhythmic beats. Andhra Pradesh’s Dholu Kunita performers enthralled the crowd by creating human pyramids with giant drums, performing a ritual dance in praise of Lord Veerabhadra.

A striking Thaatya Dhangar Gaja dance by 15 Maharashtrian artistes in traditional attire showcased tribal devotion with synchronised drum beats.

Dancers from Gujarat presented the vibrant Misra Raas and Talwar Raas, depicting Navratri’s warrior spirit. Young artiste Navya opened with a serene Shiv Vandana, followed by a technical Kathak recital.

Disciples of Damyanti Bhatia, Mirdwal, Rishika Rana and Ambika Malviya presented expressive Bhav Kathak on ‘Rangi Saari Gulabi Chunariya’.

Adding to the spectacle, Batul’s tribal artistes presented a stirring Gond dance with dhol, tasha and manjeera, while Odisha’s Odissi exponents performed a graceful dance that won thunderous applause.

Folk Culture Forum’s coordinators Pawan Sharma and Mohan Rathore announced that the final day on May 14 would feature a craft fair at 4 PM and folk dances from 7:30 PM, including Bharatnatyam, Bhagoria, Matki and Ahir Lathi.
