College students thrashed, canteen ransacked; 2 hurt

A group of nearly 100 youths entered a canteen located on Holkar Science College campus and thrashed students of New Science College sitting there. Two hurt in the attack.

Indore: Two days after the NSUI activists of two different factions clashed on Government Holkar Science College campus over membership issue, a group of nearly 100 youths thronged a canteen on the campus and beat up students sitting there. At least two students were injured in the assault.

Students of Government New Science College, which operates from a building on Holkar College campus, were sitting in the college canteen when a group of nearly 100 youths reached there and attacked them.They beat up whosoever is caught and vandalized the canteen.

In the attack, two students— Manoj and Rajesh— were badly injured.The duo reportedly lodged a complaint with the police.Sources claimed that the attack was fall- out of a fight took place between members of two factions of the NSUI over membership issue in the college campus, on Saturday.

On that day, fists and kicks were exchanged between activists but neither the college administration nor the police had taken any action against them.The sources claimed that one Surjeet, an inmate of Jawahar Lal Nehru Hostel, was thrashed by New Science College students during the incident.

To avenge that, he along with his friends and hostellers attacked the college students in canteen on Monday.According to eye- witnesses, some faculty members were informed about the attack on students by outsiders but they did not step in.Some students called up Bhawarkuna police and informed about the incident.

Police reached to spot on to see canteen ransacked and Manoj and Rajesh hurt.Government New Science College principal Kusum Lata and Government Holkar Science College principal RK Tugnawat could not reached for their comment over the issue.
