Indore : Central Government has refused to sanction fund for the most awaited virology lab in the city after the MGM Medical College administration failed to present the utilisation certificate of the earlier sanctioned amount.

Medical College administration had sent a proposal to the government for establishing the unit about a month ago.

According to acting Dean Dr Sanjay Dixit, the government requires utilisation certificate of Rs 1.5 crore which was sanctioned for MDR unit.

“We couldn’t buy equipment for the unit as we didn’t get approval from the government till date. Due to which we couldn’t produce the utilisation certificate as the amount has not been utilised,” Dr Dixit said.

It is to be noted that the government has announced to sanction Rs 6 crore for establishing a virology lab in Indore. The announcement was done after several deaths due to the deadly swine flu in January and March, last year.

More than 130 people succumbed to the deadly disease last year and more than 550 were tested positive in Indore.
