Thikri (Barwani district, Madhya Pradesh): After Harsud, where an old ambulance failed to start ahead of its flagging-off ceremony, Thikri village witnessed a similar incident where an ambulance carrying a Covid-19 patient from Anjad village stopped on its way to Indore.
Incident occurred on Friday morning near Thikri Bypass. Due to non-availability of another ambulance at Thikri community health centre, patient had to wait for more than an hour on the highway. Later, members of Niswarth Seva Samiti from Thikri village called Highway Ambulance from Dharampuri village, which took more than an hour to reach the spot.
According to information, an ambulance with Covid-19 patient from Anjad Community Health Centre started 140-kilometre journey to Indore. After covering 36 kilometres, the ambulance broke down due to mechanical fault. As a result, it stopped near Thikri Bypass.
As soon as Niswarth Seva Samiti members came to know about the incident, they immediately called another ambulance from Dharampuri village. Samiti members also arranged an oxygen facility for the patient. Ambulance driver said he has reported the matter to senior officials.
Few days back, former state home minister and Rajpur MLA Bala Bachchan had announced to provide two ambulances for Anjad community health centre.
When contacted, Thikri Block Medical Officer Dr ND Tiwari admitted that ambulance is not available. “We have been requesting for ambulance but to no avail. We seek Highway Ambulance in case of emergency,” he said.
