Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The first cry of a newborn who enters the world brings immense joy to parents, signifying that a new life has begun. Last year, an average of 42 babies uttered their first cry each day in Maharaja Tukojirao Holkar (MTH) Women’s Hospital. In addition, 120 women gave birth to twins and one woman delivered triplets in July, making it a significant year for maternity care in the hospital.
According to Dr Sumitra Yadav, senior gynecologist at MTH, the hospital remained busy throughout the year, catering to thousands of expecting mothers. The highest number of single birth deliveries occurred in January (1,355) and August (1,348), whereas the lowest was recorded in April (1,073).
Twin births, though occurring every month, were highest in September (21) and November (23). The hospital also witnessed a rare case in July, when a woman gave birth to triplets. Dr Yadav highlighted that the increasing number of deliveries at MTH reflected the hospital’s growing role in maternal healthcare. Despite being a government facility, the hospital handles a large volume of cases, ensuring quality medical support to both mothers and newborns. The rising trend of twin births is also notable. Out of the total 180 twin babies born in 2024, the highest number was delivered in September and November.
The consistency in birth numbers throughout the year signified the hospital’s ability to manage heavy patient inflow effectively, said Dr Yadav. With its well-equipped maternity wards and experienced medical staff, MTH Hospital continues to be a lifeline for expectant mothers in city.
