Indore (Madhya Pradesh): An awareness drive will be run in the district to end burning crop residues (stubble). Under the drive, the farmers will be made aware of crop residue management.
At present, the work of harvesting wheat in the district is almost complete. After harvesting the wheat crop, farmers generally set fire to the stubble, which causes pollution in the environment as well as affects the soil adversely.
The Agriculture Department is making continuous appeals to farmers to desist from burning the stubble. Collector Asheesh Singh flagged off the publicity chariot regarding safe management of wheat crop residue (stubble). The chariot will go to the gram panchayats of all the development blocks of the district and spread awareness.
On this occasion, deputy director agriculture CL Kevada, assistant agriculture engineer Manoj Bhargav, assistant director agriculture SR Eske, Vijay Jat, CL Malviya etc. were especially present.
Krishak Samvad programmes
As per the instructions of collector Singh, from April 5 to April 16, Krishak Samvad programmes will be organised in each Gram Panchayat headquarters in coordination with the field officers related to agriculture and patwari of Revenue Department and panchayat secretary of Panchayat Department. Farmers will be made aware of the losses caused by burning stubble and will be made aware of the technical information of crop residue (stubble) management.
As per the notification provision of Madhya Pradesh Government, any person, body or farmer who has land up to 2 acres will have to pay a monetary penalty of Rs 2,500 per incident for environmental damage on burning stubble. Any person, body or farmer who has land from 2 to 5 acres will have to pay a penalty of Rs 5,000 per incident for environmental damage on burning stubble.
