Indore : The case of Mahesh Verma, a daily-wage employee trapped by the Lok Ayukta on Monday morning, is just a small example. The Collectorate, which houses over 32 departments, has a number of impersonators or better known ‘Aiwajis’.
Verma’s work contract was going to lapse on October 31, 2014 and he was employed in the Election Department for election-related work. It is a frequent practice there. With everybody Verma used to say that he was an employee in Indore Municipal Corporation and was on deputation at the Collector’s Office for election purposes. After the election, his contract was over but it was extended again though there were no election related works.
It may be a matter of investigation that why Verma was appointed there when he was not employed for that job. The role of Lalit Joshi will be cleared after the investigation. But, one thing is clear that there is large number of Aiwajis working in the Collector Office particularly in Indore Tehsil Office. If an investigation is started, then it may unmask several Vermas.
Readers posted for more than 3 yrs to be transferred
After Lok Ayukta action on daily-wage worker Mahesh Verma and a SDM’s reader Lalit Joshi, the district administration has decided to transfer the readers of SDMs, Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars who are posted at same place more than three years in Indore. Besides this, 11 new operators would be temporarily appointed all the 11 SDMs offices of the district. These decisions were taken during the monthly review meeting of Revenue Officers of the district. The impact of the Verma and Joshi episode was clearly visible during the meeting and the decisions also looked influenced by the Lokayukta action on these two workers.
