Indore : The annual session of the 76th Indian Roads Congress, the national body of highway engineers of the country, would formally be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker and local MP Sumitra Mahajan at the Brilliant Convention Centre on Saturday.
Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari will preside over the inaugural function, while chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be the special guest on the occasion.
Highway engineers, IIT students and researchers from different parts of the country will participate in the five-day session. The annual session of IPC was inaugurated on Friday.
Collector P Narahari and DIG Santosh Singh inspected the venue of IPC and reviewed preparations.
Narahari told reporters that Mahajan, Gadkari and Chouhan would also flag off a new fleet of city buses run by AICTSL on Saturday.
IRC provides a platform for sharing knowledge gained from experience in the field of highway engineering.
The sessions connect engineers from various state government PWDs or highways departments, scientists from various government organisations / institutions, consultants of highway fields, manufacturers of highway related machines and instruments, users and practicing contractors and software developers from all over India.
Mayor Malini Goud inaugurated the technical exhibition, which is the first phase of the event, and appreciated the arrangements.
Technical exhibition showcased more than 100 stalls. Various developers, manufacturers and consultants offered their services and expert advice during the exhibition. The exhibition helped manufacturers interact with users. This is necessary for understanding the required modifications needed in products.
Technical exhibition head Akhilesh Upadhaya said, “Exhibition showcases all the products required in manufacturing of roads, finding all the necessary products from cement to colour at one place helps in planning the procedure and procurements.”
The evening commenced with cultural dance performances. Technical sessions regarding the latest upgrades and methods for road manufacturing are planned for Saturday.
