Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A 62-year-old died while undergoing cataract operation at Indore's Hukumchand Hospital on Thursday. However, the doctors claimed that she died during the preparations for surgery before the procedure could even start.
The deceased has been identified as Lalita Raju, a resident of North Toda. She was operated on by Dr Kamala Arya when she succumbed.
Acting on her family's complaint, Chief Medical Health Officer immediately removed Dr Arya from Hukumchand Polyclinic and shifted her to District Hospital and ordered a probe.
A six-member committee led by civil surgeon Dr GL Sodhi has been constituted to probe the matter.
Doctors claim she had complications
Shrugging off reports of negligence, the doctors claimed that the woman was suffering from hypertension and diabetes. They claimed that she had gone into shock and died during the preparations for surgery.
The doctors clarified that Raju had been coming to the hospital for the last many days but was not operated on due to her health complications. However, on Thursday, when sugar and blood pressure and other parameters were under control, she was declared fit for the surgery.
A detailed probe report will be submitted to the CMHO. Following which the further course of action will be decided.
