Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A 22-year-old woman from Shujalpur, lost her life while undergoing treatment for a rare and severe skin disorder on Thursday.

The woman named Ritika Meena, lost her life while undergoing treatment for the disorder named Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS). She had been receiving treatment at a private hospital for over a month, according to a report in Nai Dunia.

Her family initially thought it was a common skin problem and sought local treatment, but her condition did not improve.

As her health worsened, they took her to Indore, where she remained hospitalized for nearly a month.

Medical experts said early detection of SJS is crucial, as delays can lead to serious complications. The primary cause of the disease is an allergic reaction to certain medicines.

Ritika’s family member, Sachin Meena, shared that she first experienced a burning sensation on her skin, followed by blisters.

Initially, local doctors treated her, but her condition worsened as blisters spread, and her skin started peeling.

She was admitted to the hospital in Indore on February 8 and diagnosed with this rare disorder. She was discharged on February 14 but had to be readmitted on February 26 as her condition deteriorated.

Ritika was the only child of her parents, who spent lakhs of rupees on her treatment.

The early symptoms of SJS are similar to the flu, including fever, sore throat, cough, and joint pain. Within days, painful red rashes and blisters develop, resembling burns or open wounds.

In severe cases, the skin peels off, and swelling occurs on the lips, throat, and face.
