Hyderabad police have arrested Keerthi Teja for allegedly killing his grandfather, prominent Andhra industrialist Velamati Chandrasekhar Janardhana Rao, in a dispute over property.

The founder of Veljan Group of Companies was found dead at his Hyderabad home on Thursday evening. Police revealed the details of the case on Saturday following the arrest of his grandson, who had recently returned from the United States. According to investigators, Teja allegedly attacked his grandfather with a knife dozens of times following an intense argument about property matters.

Janardhana Rao, who originally hailed from Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, had been residing at his Somajiguda residence for several months prior to his death.

Reports indicate that he had previously transferred company shares valued at Rs 4 crore to his grandson Keerthi Teja, who is the son of his second daughter Sarojini Devi.

The industrialist was also recognised for his philanthropic contributions, making significant donations to the Government General Hospital in Eluru and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.
