Who Is N Ramchander Rao? Former MLC To Replace G Kishan Reddy As New Telangana BJP Chief

N Ramchander Rao was appointed as the new chief of Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) Telangana unit Monday, claimed a media report. On Sunday, the BJP issued the notification for the election of its Telangana state president.

Hyderabad: N Ramchander Rao was appointed as the new chief of Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) Telangana unit Monday, reported NDTV. Rao will replace Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy. Notably, Reddy was elected as the BJP's Telangana unit president in July 2023, replacing Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

On Sunday, the BJP issued the notification for the election of its Telangana state president. As per the notification, nominations would be accepted from 2 PM to 4 PM on June 30, and the nominations can be withdrawn between 4 PM and 5 PM. According to reports, Rao is likely to be the only BJP leader who had applied for the post.

Former BJP MLA Endala Lakshminarayana, who is the state election officer, had said Union Minister of State for MSME Shobha Karandlaje would be the Central Returning Officer for the elections to be held at the BJP's state headquarters.

Who Is Ramchandra Rao?

Born on April 27, 1959, Naraparaju Ramchander Rao served as the Member of Telangana Legislative Council (MLC) for Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Mahabubnagar Graduates' Constituency from 2015 to 2021. He is also a member of the Bar Council of India. He entered politics during the period of the emergency. For three consecutive years, he was elected President of the Students' Union while studying Bachelor of Arts at Railway Degree College. This student union was affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, (ABVP).

Rao pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Railway Degree College Secunderabad in 1980. He secured a Master of Arts (Political Science) from Osmania University in 1982. Rao was state spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party, first for undivided Andhra Pradesh and then for Mahabubnagar. He also served as BJP's president for the Hyderabad unit.

Rao lost the 2009 election for Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) for the Graduates’ constituency for Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Mahabubnagar districts. He also lost the 2014 assembly polls from the Malkajgiri seat with a narrow margin.
