New Delhi: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi launched a scathing attack on the BJP government in the Lok Sabha on Monday, July 28, during the special debate on ‘Operation Sindoor’, questioning the Centre’s handling of the Pahalgam terror attack and its aftermath.
Responding directly to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Gogoi accused the government of arrogance and failing to trace those behind the deadly assault that killed 26 people, including a Nepali national.
He criticised the Defence Minister for deflecting blame, saying, “If someone has to take the responsibility, it has to be the defence minister, you can’t hide behind the LG.”
His remarks came during a session marked by intense political exchanges, with both the ruling and opposition benches clashing over accountability and national security.

Questions On PM Modi's Absence
Gogoi expressed frustration over what he called the government’s refusal to answer difficult questions. “They feel no one can question them, no matter how big the lapse is,” he said, slamming the leadership’s silence on key failures in security planning and intelligence.
He also took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting the site of the attack after returning from his official visit to Saudi Arabia. “He chose to give an election speech in Bihar. It was Rahul Gandhi who went to Pahalgam after the attack,” Gogoi pointed out, highlighting what he described as the PM’s misplaced priorities during a national crisis.
'When Will We Take PoK Back?'
Adding to his speech, Gogoi questioned the government’s long-term strategy on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Referring to Rajnath Singh’s remarks on avoiding war, he said, “The Defence Minister said that our motive was not to have a war, why wasn’t that motive? When will we take PoK back?”
Monday’s session marked the beginning of a 16-hour special discussion in both Houses on Operation Sindoor. The debate is set to continue in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, with anticipated interventions from top leaders including Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
