Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury recently sparked controversy with her remarks about civil disobedience. During her conversation with Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal, on the Political Kida podcast on February 10, Chowdhury said, "When people recognise their Constitutional rights and take to the streets, there will be civil disobedience in the country."
"People have seen this in India before and it will happen again in future," she added. Sibal, disagreeing with Chowdhury's approach, said, "I hope this situation never arrives in the country."

Choudhury's remarks were met with strong criticism on social media. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one user wrote, "Ask congress and they’ll dismiss this evil call for anarchy as her 'Personal Opinion'."

Criticising the Congress MP for talking in favour of civil disobedience, another user wrote, "This is really ridiculous what she is talking about. She is member of the Parliament and talking for civil disobedience. We the people of India have immense patience. We love to live in peace. We respect you all. However, immediately Mr. Sibbal said that it should not happen in India."

Speaking about AAP's setback in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, Chowdhury in an interview with ANI said, "We were fighting for our place. We were not with anyone. AAP lost the polls because of their ego. This proves what we were saying earlier."
"The alliance (INDIA alliance) should remain for the country's interests. We respect them and believe in them. This is the only way where we can stay together to protect the country's Constitution," she added.
