Kolkata: Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday had visited Kalyani in Nadia district and demanded an NIA probe where an explosion took place on February 7 and claimed 4 lives and left one seriously injured.
āIt was not firecrackers but illegal explosives were also being made. The NIA should investigate this operation, as it could be a serious threat to public safety and national security. The local leaders and councillors should be punished. At least 50 lakh rupees compensation should be given to the affected families. One is still fighting for life in the hospital,ā said Adhikari.
Adhikari also mentioned that this explosion actually hints towards a comprehensive investigation.
Following the explosion at Kalyani, the police officers said that the firecracker factory was functioning 'unlawfully' and without any safety measures.

The factory owner is currently being interrogated by police.
Meanwhile, 320 bags of explosives (Ammonium Nitrate) were found in a truck at Rampurhat in Birbhum district.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Agnimitra Paul questioned, āThe police should be questioned and also the Chief Minister that are explosives being stacked in the state ahead of 2026 Assembly elections.ā
