Kolkata: Another model-cum-actress Manjushree Niyogi on Thursday night died by suicide as according to her family member she was suffering from depression.
According to the mother of the deceased actress Manjushree was suffering from acute depression especially after her close friend and actress Bidisha De Majumdar had died by suicide on May 25.
“My daughter had a shoot yesterday and was happy. But for some months she was depressed as she didn’t have much work in hand and also after her friend Bidisha died she said that she will also commit suicide and yesterday she did what she said by hanging herself,” said Manjushree’s mother.
Actress’s mother also confirmed that Manjushree couple of months back tried to commit suicide at her in-laws house by jumping from the balcony but was saved by my son-in-law.
“My daughter got married in November last year and tried to commit suicide earlier but was saved by my son-in-law Ramnath Banerjee. My son-in-law was a nice person. Yesterday he came to take my daughter to his house. But she thought death is easy and my daughter was also short tempered,” further mentioned the dead actress’ mother.
Meanwhile, Ramnath is being quizzed by police.
According to police sources, Manjushree’s husband didn’t want her to continue with her modeling and acting profession and also had ‘heated exchange’ before he left the paternal house of Manjushree.
It can be recalled that three model-turned-actresses died in the last two weeks due to ‘depression’.
On May 15, actress Pallabi Dey died by hanging herself and her boyfriend Sagnik was taken into police custody. On May 25 Actress Bidisha De Majumdar committed suicide and on May 26 Manjushree died by hanging herself.
According to psychologist Abhijit Mitra one should talk about their depression with people as depression is ‘curable’.
“All the models who have died are extremely young. After a point, children don't feel comfortable with their parents. But they should talk to their parents but in that case they should talk to their friends or psychologists as depression is curable,” said Mitra.
Bollywood model Ushasie Chakraborty said that depression has become common after the pandemic and also that one should be more ‘clam’ and be ‘firm’ in whichever profession they are in.
