Kinnaur: A cloudburst was reported in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district on Wednesday evening. Due to the cloudburst in the higher reaches of the Rishi Dogri Valley, a sudden flash flood struck Hojis Lungpa Nala. A rescue operation was launched to rescue the stranded civilians. The Indian Army was also called in to help the local administration.

The deluge engulfed the bridge across the Sutlej River. Notably, the site was an active road construction zone under CPWD towards Gangthang Bralam. The Indian Army rescued four people, including one injured person.

On receiving an urgent request from Kinnaur's superintendent of police, the Army immediately mobilised a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) column. As per a statement by the Indian Army, braving darkness, fast currents and unstable terrain, the team reached the location and discovered four civilians stranded on the far bank of the river.

The Army has deployed its new generation equipment in the rescue operation. The Logistics Drone High Altitude (LDHA) system was used to ferry essential items, including eatables and coconut water, across the floodwaters to help sustain the stranded individuals through the night.

The stranded civilians were guided to higher and safer locations. The injured have been evacuated and shifted to the Regional Hospital in Reckong Peo.

The rescued civilians were taken to the Army camp in Pooh
