New Delhi: A travel vlogger, Sarfaraz Zain, alleged that he was brutally assaulted by ticket examiners and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, after he complained about overpriced food and water on the Grand Trunk Express, travelling from New Delhi to Chennai.

In a video he shared on X (formerly Twitter) on June 30, Zain claimed he was beaten, had his phone snatched, and his video evidence forcibly deleted by the accused officials. he also alleged that the railway police were bribed by the TTE.

The incident reportedly began when Zain questioned the pricing of pantry items, including a Rs 20 water bottle. “I didn’t do anything wrong, I just complained about the overpriced water they are selling. What they are doing is wrong. See, these people are hitting me. How am I wrong here?” Zain can be heard saying in the video, as he is mobbed by railway staff and police officers.

Posting the video on X, he wrote, "I complained about overcharging in the pantry, two TTE and two railway policemen beat me up and attacked me with lethal intent. attempt to kill Please Justice Train No 12616 PNR: 2137748825."

Have a look at it here:

After Zain’s post went viral on the social media platform, the official handle of Indian Railway Seva responded, “For necessary action escalated to the concerned official @Drmchennai @Drmvijayawada.”

The DRM Vijayawada account then redirected the issue, saying, “Matter forwarded to @DrmJhansi @drm_dli.”

Here's How Netizens Reacted:

Netizens expressed outrage at the railway’s handling of the complaint, criticising the lack of accountability and transparency. “That’s it, nothing will happen except escalation,” wrote one user. Another added, “What necessary action? Why are you revealing identity of complainant? You are responsible for this.”

Here are some other reactions:

Social media users also demanded strict action against the officers for sacking the accused rather than mere suspension. “Sack them. No mere suspension,” one user wrote.
