At least nine people lost their lives after several vehicles fell into the Mahisagar River after a portion of Gambhira bridge collapsed in Vadodara on Wednesday. At least 10 people are reported to be injured.

Vadodara: At least nine people lost their lives after several vehicles fell into the Mahisagar River after a portion of Gambhira bridge collapsed in Vadodara on Wednesday. According to reports, several people were also injured. The video of the incident, which took place in Padra-Mujpur area, also surfaced online.

The connectivity between Anand and Vadodara has been disrupted due to the bridge collapse. In the video that surfaced online, a tanker could be seen hanging from the bridge, while another vehicle could be seen submerged in the river.

After receiving the information authorities rushed to the spot. A rescue operation is currently underway.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel directed local authorities to reach the spot and investigate the reason for the bridge collapse. As per officials, a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is also reaching the incident site to assist in the rescue operation.

The bridge was reportedly inaugurated in 1985.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is reported in several parts of Gujarat, received heavy rainfall in the past few days, throwing normal life out of gear.

Road Caved-In Near Jhunjhunu:

Earlier in the day, a ewly-constructed state highway in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu collapsed just days before its official inauguration, after torrential rains triggered the water level to rise in the Katli river. A video of the incident, accessed by NDTV, is going viral on social media.

According to the NDTV report, on Sunday, July 6, heavy rains lashed the Udaipurwati region, with the area recording 86 mm of rainfall. As a result, the Katli river, which is typically seasonal, turned into a forceful stream, swelling rapidly and pushing aggressively against the recently laid highway in Baghuli.
