Ahmedabad: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has arrived in Gujarat for a two-day visit starting Friday. His tour aims to strengthen the Congress party’s organizational structure in the state ahead of the 2027 Gujarat Assembly elections.
Upon landing at Ahmedabad Airport, Rahul Gandhi proceeded directly to the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee’s (GPCC) headquarters, where enthusiastic party workers greeted him with slogans of "Rahul Gandhi Zindabad!" His visit comes as a follow-up to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Belagavi, Karnataka, which emphasized the need for internal restructuring.
Revamping Congress for 2027 Elections
In his recent address in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi confidently stated that the Congress government will be formed in Gujarat in the next elections. With over two and a half years left for the polls, his Gujarat visit marks the beginning of an aggressive push to reorganize the party from the grassroots level.
Congress leaders, under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, are set to restructure the party by engaging with block-level workers and senior leaders. His strategy involves directly interacting with Congress members to gather insights into the state unit's strengths and weaknesses.
A Day of Intensive Meetings
On March 7, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to hold five back-to-back meetings from 10 AM to 7 PM, engaging with nearly 1,000 Congress workers. His discussions will focus on the current political scenario in Gujarat, Internal party issues,Strengthening Congress’ ground-level presence,Preparing a positive agenda to counter the ruling BJP.
For the first time, Gandhi will spend an entire working day at the Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan. After 5 PM, he is expected to meet designated office bearers and select individuals separately to discuss key strategies.
Shaktisinh Gohil on Congress’ New Approach
Senior Gujarat Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil highlighted the need for change within the party to align with the evolving socio-political landscape. He confirmed that a committee has been formed to study the required organizational changes, and decisions will be based on its findings.
“The Congress party will work with a positive agenda,” said Gohil. He also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, mentioning his promise of free gas cylinders to Muslim families in Jammu & Kashmir during Ramzan and Muharram.
