A bride refused to marry the groom after he fell on the stage before the garland ceremony, reportedly, in a highly intoxicated state in Bihar’s Begusarai. The incident took place on December 8.

As per reports, Bulbul Mahato’s daughter was supposed to marry Bhulla Mahato’s son in Kazir Salpur village. However, when the groom arrived, the girl’s family members were shocked to see him heavily drunk. Infuriated, they held the baraatis hostage and demanded back the entire wedding expenses.
A day later on December 9, when the boy’s family returned the money and goods received as wedding gifts to the bride’s family, he was released.
Groom arrested
Meanwhile, the police got the information about the incident and the boy was arrested.
According to the information, the bride's family served breakfast to the baraatis on Sunday morning. Then as per a ritual, they took them for a tour of the village. While worshipping the deity, the groom's feet started faltering. Seeing this, the bride's family suspected that the groom was drunk, but somehow he was taken to the wedding stage. After this, the groom stumbled and fell on the stage.
When the girl came to know that the groom was drunk, she refused to marry him. As soon as the girl refused, the villagers held the groom, his father and other family members hostage. After this, they started demanding the goods given to the groom and the money spent on the marriage.
The bride's family released the groom and his father after keeping them hostage for about 24 hours late on Monday night. The police arrived at the spot after the bride's family released the groom. It was told that the boy had been abusing drugs for the past four-five years.
Police confirmed that the boy was intoxicated and arrested.
