NEW DELHI: Congress on Monday ridiculed the PM for accepting party leaders’ repeated call for the Centre to take responsibility of the universal vaccination instead of putting burden on the states, saying “better late than never, but never late is better.”
Party chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala asked him to apologise to the nation for messing up the vaccination drive and refusing to appeals by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, ex-PM Manmohan Singh and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi for over 2 months for free vaccination by the Centre to all Indians.
Finally, Modi realised his folly to declare under compulsion to supply the vaccine for free vaccination of all those 18+ from June 21, Surjewala said, wondering why he took so much time to understand and say it. No need for him to come on TV on Monday if he had checked the Twitter handles of Rahul at the right time, he said.
“Modi ji, you become so busy with own ‘man ki baat’ you don’t listen to sane advice. @RahulGandhi had been regularly stressing the Centre should take responsibility. Better listen to us because we only talk about what is good for the nation,” Surjewala said.
“Mr PM, the nation knows your intent is corrupt, policy collapsed and labour is only for the elections. That is why no good results but only destruction. You may utter as much lie on TV as you want, but the nation won’t pardon you for the havoc on Covid-19 front,” Surjewala said.
