Around 8-10 Indian Army soldiers are reported missing from a camp in the lower Harshil area after a cloudburst hit above the Harshil Army base camp following the Dharali tragedy on Tuesday.
Despite having their own personnel missing in the incident, Indian Army troops are engaged in relief operations.
According to ANI reports, the Indian Air Force has positioned Chinook, Mi-17 V5, Cheetah, and ALH helicopters at Chandigarh air base, all prepared for immediate deployment to Uttarakhand's affected regions. These aircraft are fully equipped with necessary rescue materials and are awaiting favourable weather conditions to commence relief operations in Uttarkashi.
A landslide struck near Dharali village, approximately 4 km from the Indian Army Camp at Harshil, at around 1:45 PM today.
At least four people have died and many are feared missing after a flash flood triggered by a cloudburst in the Kheer Ganga river caused massive destruction in Dharali.
Responding with urgency, the Indian Army swiftly mobilised 150 personnel, who reached the site within 10 minutes and immediately launched rescue operations.
In a statement, the Army said, "So far, more than 20 civilians have been safely evacuated. The injured are receiving timely and effective medical attention at the Indian Army's medical facility in Harshil. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with all available resources deployed to locate and assist any remaining stranded individuals."
