Rudraprayag: At least one person died and seven others were injured after a bus fell into the Alakananda River in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, 10 passengers are reportedly still missing. At the time of the incident, there were 18 passengers onboard the bus.
"A bus went out of control and fell into the Alaknanda River in Gholthir area of Rudraprayag district. As per information received so far, 18 people were on board the bus," Police Headquarters spokesperson IG Nilesh Anand Bharane told ANI.
Teams of the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF), Police and Administration launched search and rescue operations.
According to reports, the bus was going uphill when its driver lost control. The vehicle then fell into the river. The injured people have been shifted to nearby hospitals. Locals are also helping in the search and rescue operations.
It is the second tragic incident that took place in Rudraprayag. Earlier this month, a Bell 407 helicopter operated by Aryan Aviation crashed in Rudraprayag when it was flying from Kedarnath to Guptkashi. Seven people, including the the pilot of the ill-fated chopper and a two-year-old child, lost their lives.
