Lucknow: In Daya Ram Purwa village, about 25 kilometres from Lucknow, members of a rural livelihood mission’s self-help group have been engaged in large-scale flag production for the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign. Once confined largely to household chores, these women now play a direct role in local employment generation through this government-linked initiative.
The group was assigned a target of producing 3.50 lakh tricolour flags. Since August 5, members have been working extended hours, and as of Wednesday, 3,48,000 flags have been completed. The work has provided steady income and skill utilisation for the women involved, who previously focused on small-scale ventures like pickle and papad making.
While the campaign is tied to a national event, for the women of this village, it also marks a significant opportunity to strengthen their economic participation. The assignment has required coordination, bulk material handling, and quality control, expanding their work experience beyond traditional crafts.
Officials from the rural livelihood mission say such projects help sustain self-help group momentum beyond microfood processing and encourage diversification of skills. With the delivery deadline approaching, the women are expected to complete the remaining flags within a day.
