Lucknow: Nasira, died after being electrocuted on a roadside near the VIP Road boundary of Lucknow Airport. The incident took place around noon on Friday when she had stepped out to collect jamun fruits. Eyewitnesses say she came into contact with a tin-sheet boundary wall that had become live with electrical current.
Originally from Raebareli, Nasira had been living with her aunt’s family in the Chhillawan area of Sarojini Nagar for the past 15 years. She was mentally challenged since birth and unmarried. Her left palm bore visible burn marks from the electric shock.
Locals quickly gathered at the scene, leading to chaos and protests against airport authorities. Police, including Krishna Nagar ACP Vikas Pandey, reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
Barricades were installed around the boundary wall, and power supply was temporarily cut to trace the source of the leakage.
Residents claim this isn’t the first incident. “Current has been felt on the wall multiple times,” said one man. “Even I got shocked near the same wall yesterday while picking jamuns.” Despite repeated complaints, no action was taken by the authorities, locals alleged.
Officials are now investigating the electrical fault, while public anger continues to mount over the recurring hazard near a public route.
