Lucknow: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation is set to hold elections for its Executive Committee on Sunday, August 17. The elections for the 12-member committee were delayed for 72 days due to a dispute between the BJP's city unit and the Mayor. The dispute was resolved after intervention from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
According to the announcement by Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, six new members will be elected to replace those who retired on June 1. Of the six seats, five are expected to go to the BJP and one to the Samajwadi Party (SP).
The BJP has finalized the names of Mayor Sushma Kharkwal's close associates for the committee, including Arun Rai, Sandeep Sharma, Rajesh Singh Gabbar, and Himanshu Ambedkar.
The final name is a toss-up between Pradeep Shukla and Prithvi Gupta. The SP's representative is expected to be Yayawar Hussain Reshu. The Executive Committee acts like a cabinet, passing policy and financial proposals and making key decisions on city development.
