Varanasi: The Indian Army will commence written examinations for Agniveer recruitment from June 30 to July 10, covering 12 districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh. A record 58,000 candidates have registered for the tests, which will be conducted in 13 languages, including regional options like Bhojpuri and Awadhi for the first time at centers in Varanasi and Gorakhpur.
The recruitment drive offers positions in General Duty and Technical roles, attracting 9,078 more applicants than previous cycles. Ghazipur district reported the highest registrations (11,401), while Sonbhadra had the lowest (358).
Army Recruitment Office Director Colonel Shailesh Kumar confirmed logistical preparations are underway, though exam timings and center details remain pending.

The move follows the recent induction of 197 Gorkha Agniveers after 31 weeks of training. Officials emphasize the multilingual format aims to widen participation from rural candidates. Results are expected by August, with selected recruits beginning four-year service terms under the Agnipath scheme.
