Lucknow: The UP government has announced the establishment of Dr. Ambedkar Suvidha Kendras and Vishwakarma Shramik Sarays to assist migrant and unorganized sector workers. The first phase will deploy these facilities across 17 municipal corporation areas, along with Noida and Greater Noida.

The Suvidha Kendras will function as resource hubs, offering drinking water, toilets, and information on government welfare programs. Meanwhile, the transit hostels under the Vishwakarma scheme will provide temporary accommodation with basic amenities like bathrooms and cloakrooms for laborers moving between cities for work.

While the Labour Department has finalized the blueprint, implementation timelines remain unspecified. The initiative follows longstanding complaints from construction workers about unsafe overnight stays during inter-district travel.

The government plans eventual expansion to all districts, though funding details and phase wise rollout schedules are yet to be disclosed. Similar worker hostel projects in other states have faced challenges in maintenance and occupancy rates, raising questions about long term sustainability.

Authorities emphasize these measures will integrate informal workers into social security schemes, but ground-level execution will determine actual impact. Monitoring committees are expected to oversee operations at each center.
