Ballia: A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death and two of his friends were injured in a late night attack in Ballia district following which villagers blocked the national highway for more than an hour on Friday morning, police said.

Golu Yadav, from Tola Shivan Rai village, had gone to attend a post-funeral ritual with his three friends to Fakarurai Tola village. While returning home around 1 am on Friday the group was ambushed near the Kali Sthan area, they said.

According to police, the attackers assaulted the teenagers with knives, axes, and sticks. Golu died on the spot, while his friends Gahan and Chandan were injured.

Enraged over the killing, villagers blocked the national highway on Friday morning. The blockade lasted for nearly 90 minutes and was lifted only after Bairia Circle Officer (CO) Mohammad Faheem Qureshi assured the crowd of strict action against the accused.

Ballia Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh and other senior police and administrative officers reached the scene to oversee the situation.

Based on a complaint lodged by the Golu's brother, Dilip Yadav, an FIR has been registered against seven people --” Devendra Singh, Pawan Singh, Aman Singh, and Sonu Shah of Tola Shivan Rai village, and Prakash Singh, Vikas Singh, and Dipanshu Paswan of Fakarurai Tola village.”

The FIR has also been registered against five unidentified persons, a police officer said.

The FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and efforts are on to arrest the accused, the officer said, adding that a few suspects have been detained for questioning.
