Mumbai, April 22: The Vice President of the United States JD Vance has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of over 27 tourists and left around 12 injured on Tuesday (April 22). The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday when 2–3 terrorists, disguised as army personnel, opened fire on visitors near Baisaran meadow, which is a scenic area near Pahalgam.

JD Vance arrived in New Delhi on Monday morning for his first official visit to India, scheduled from April 21 to 24. Upon his arrival at Palam airport, he was welcomed with a ceremonial Guard of Honour. Vance is accompanied by his wife and children during the four-day trip.

In a heartfelt message, the Vice President said, “Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack.”

His statement came in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tweet, where he condemned the attack and offered condolences to the victims’ families. He assured that all possible help is being provided to those affected. He said, "I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger."

He further said, "Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Srinagar to review the situation, following the Prime Minister’s directive from Jeddah. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha accompanied him."

Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called the attack "far more severe than any recent assault targeting civilians," while authorities continue to verify the final number of casualties.
