Jaipur: There was an uproar in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly over the comment made about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by one of the ministers. Protesting against the comment, Congress MLAs reached the Speaker's dais.

Taking action on this, the Speaker Vasudev Devnani suspended Six Congress MLAs including state Congress president Govind Singh Dotasara from the House for the remaining period of the Budget session.

Due to uproar, the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned 3 times. When the proceedings started again at 4 o'clock, the Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg proposed the suspension of Congress MLAs Govind Singh Dotasara, Deputy Leader of Opposition Ramkesh Meena, Amin Kagzi, Zakir Hussain Gasavat, Hakeem Ali Khan and Sanjay Kumar.

Taking a voice vote on the proposed motion, the Speaker Vasudev Devnani suspended the MLAs for the remaining period of the budget session. The Congress MLAs started Dharna in the House after protesting against the action.

The uproar in the House started when replying a question in the Question Hour, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Avinash Gehlot said, "In the last budget 2023-24, you (Congress) named the scheme after your Dadi (grandmother) Indira Gandhi as always.”

The opposition got angry over this comment. Leader of Opposition Tikaram Julie strongly opposed the minister's comment and said — "What is this nonsense? Indira Gandhi has been the Prime Minister of the country, such language cannot be used for her.”

The situation got worsened to such an extent that Congress MLAs came into the well and started sloganeering. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel tried to calm the situation, saying that 'Dadi' is a respectful word, but by then the MLAs had reached the Speaker's dais. The house was adjourned for three times after this.
